Indian Army successfully carries out fresh user trial of Agni-III ballistic missile

Indian army is all set to carry out a fresh user trial of 3,000 kilometre range Agni-III ballistic missile from Abdul Kalam Island off Odisha coast .

Indian Army's Strategic Forces command carried out the test from launch pad No. 4 of the Integrated Test Range in   Abdul Kalam Island with logistics support from DRDO.

The test was aimed at re-establishing the operational effectiveness of the weapon system of Indian Army

About Agni III:

Agni III is cabale of carrying upto 1.5 tonnes of both conventional and nuclear warheads. It was nducted in the armed forces in June, 2011.

Agni III is a rail mobile capable system which canan be launched from various platforms giving the country intermediate range ballistic missile firepower and greatly extending its power projection in the region.

India Cyprus inks four agreements

India and Cyprus has signed 4 agreements, including on air services and merchant shipping. They also expressed their willingness to cooperate in areas like climate change, tackling international terrorism and seeking reform of the United Nations.

Both India and Cyprus share the common objective of bringing early reform in united national security council. Cyprus also support India for permanent membership in the UN Security Council. 

Agreements

• The  agreement on Executive Programme on Culture Education and Scientific Cooperation (EPCEC) for the year 2017-2020.
• An agreement on 'Work Plan under Programme of Cooperation in the Field of Agriculture for 2017-18'
• the two countries inked an air services agreement in Aviation sector and on cooperation in the area of merchant shipping

Prime Minister launches UDAN Scheme

Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi has launched UDAN (Ude Desh Ka Aam Nagrik) scheme and  flagged off first UDAN flight under Regional Connectivity Scheme from  Shimla to Delhi. He also flagged off flights from  Kadapa–Hyderabad, and Nanded-Hyderabad sectors .

About the Scheme

• The Scheme wil cover 45 unserved and under served airports to make flying more affordable.
• Will get many flights to Tier II and Tier II airports which did not get many flights in week.
• 50 % of the seats in every flight should have fare cap of Rs 2500 per seat per hour and will have seating capacity range from 19 to 78
• In Simple UDAN wil cover the whole country and gives economic boost to hinterland areas.

1.India to host 18th World Road Meeting

India to host 18^th World Road Meeting (WRM 2017) on November 13 at Delhi, as per International Road Federation. The Theme of 2017 edition is “Safe Roads and Smart Mobility: The Engines of Economic Growth”.

World Road Meeting will be attended by over 4000 delegates from across the world. It is the biggest platform for road engineers, safety and transport experts and companies engaged in road safety product.

National Panchayti Raj day is celebrated every year on April 24. The day was marked as passing the constitution act (73^rd Amendment) which added a new part IX to the constitution of India, which is titled as “The Panchayats” and consist of provisions from Articles 243 to 243 O

About Panchayati Raj:

• Panchayat Raj signifies the system of rural local self-government.
• It was established in 1958 with the recommendation of Balwant rai G Mehta committee.
• Rajasthan is the first state to establish the Panchayat Raj on Oct 2,1959.
• Panchayat Raj was constitutionalised through the 73^rd constitutional amendment Act of 1992 on April 24 1992.
• This act is significant landmark in history as it permits states to take steps to organize village panchayats and provide them with necessary powers and authority necessary to help them to function as units of self-government.
• Since 2010  on this day Union Ministry of Panchayati Raj organises National Conference and awards best performing Gram Panchayats with 'The Panchayat Shashakatikaran Puraskar and Rashtriya Gaurav Gram Sabha Puraskar'.

Three Indian Warships INS Mumbai, Trishul and Aditya have arrived at Toulon for a 3 days Visit, in Continuation of the Indian Navy’s overseas deployment to the Mediterranean Sea and West Coast.

The bilateral exercise VARUNA between the Indian and the French Navy is scheduled from 24 to 30 Apr 17 on completion of its visit at Toulon. The VARUNA series of exercises began in 2000 and have grown into an institutionalised form of interaction between the two navies. Bilateral exercises such as Garuda, Shakti and Varuna have been a regular feature between both India and France.

Su30 MKI aircraft was inducted to ‘Valiants’

Indian Air Force has inducted its frontline Su-30 MKI fighter aircraft into the 221 Squadron, 'Valiants', at its base in Punjab, enhancing the Indian Air force’s capabilities.

The  ‘valiants’ which flew Mig-23 aircraft till 2009, and now equipped with Su-30 MKI fighter aircraft. Su 30 MKI is a state of the art all weather multi role fighter aircraft capable of undertaking varied air combat and ground attack missions

About Valiants:

• The Valiants were formed as an offensive fighter squadron on 1963 at Barrakpore.
• Squadron was then equipped with 3 types of aircraft namely, Vampires, Spitfire, Hurricane and Su-7 aircraft.
• The Squadron has taken part of 1971 and Kargil war operations
• Su-7 aircraft of the Valiants  used in East Pakistan in support of the Indian Army’s blitzkrieg advance in 1971
• The ‘Valiants’, operating the MiG-23s, were the first ones to fire weapons on the enemy during the Kargil war
• Induction of the new Su-30 Squadron will boost the offensive capabilities of the Indian Air .

Ministry of Rural Development has achieved reaching a new milestone by geotagging one Crore assets under MGNREGA. The Geotagged assets have been put in public Domain.

About Geo-tagging:

• To monitor the assets created under MGNREGA the rural job guarantee scheme, the ministry of rural development and the Indian Space Research Organisation (Isro) signed an agreement on geo-tagging the assets.
• Geo Tagging is the process of adding geographical identification of the work and bring to notice the amount spent on it and the number of people on the job and how it looks.
• It helps in online recording and monitoring of assets created under rural job scheme to check leakages and lead to more transparency and ensure accountability at ground level .
• Around 3 million assets are created annually across the country under the rural jobs scheme.
• Gram Rozgar Sahayak or junior engineer will take a photo of an asset created by the scheme and will upload the photo on the mobile app “Bhuvan” web portal which is created by ISRO.
• Once the photo is uploaded, the location and time will get encoded and there will be an option to add more information according to parameters.

First ‘India Indonesia Energy Forum’ held in Jakarta , Indonesia.

First India and Indonesia Energy Forum held in Jakarta, Indonesia. MoU has been signed during an occasion between the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas, Government of India and the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources of the Republic of Indonesia on cooperation in the field of Oil and Gas.

Highlights:

• The Memorandum of Understanding is to establish a cooperative institutional framework to facilitate and to enhance bilateral cooperation in the field of oil and gas sectors on the basis of equality and mutual benefit.
• India is 3^rd largest importer of coal from Indonesia.
• India’s imports of coal from Indonesia amounted to US$ 3.5 billion in 2016.
• The bilateral trade between two countries stood at US$ 15.90 billion in 2015-16.
• There is also agreement on both sides to increase the exports from India to Indonesia to improve the trade balance.
