1.India elected to head UN-Habitat.

India has been unanimously elected as the President of the UN-Habitat(United Nation Human Settlement Programme). It is an organ of the United Nations’ Organisation (UNO) that promotes socially and environmentally sustainable human settlements across the world, after 10 years.

Shri M.Venkaiah Naidu will chair the Governing Council of UN-Habitat in Nairobi, Kenya and also for another 2 years, The theme of the 26th Meeting of the Governing Council is “Opportunities for effective implementation of the New Urban Agenda”.
  

2. High Court grants temporary stay to Uppur plant

The Madras High Court has granted an temporary stay for establishing the 2x800 MW Uppur power plant in Ramanathapuram District , Tamil Nadu. It has granted a temporary stay on dispossession of land, which is to be acquired from farmers .



3. Chinnar Wildlife Sanctuary to rehabilitate Indian star tortoises.

Kerala Forest Department at the Chinnar Wildlife Sanctuary (CWS) to rehabilitate Indian star tortoises (Geochelone elegans). This makes the Chinnar Wildlife Sanctuary the only rehabilitation centre for star tortoises in the country.

4.National Book Trust (NBT) to host book fairs in panchayats.


National Book Trust to host book fairs in Panchayat level to encourage reading habit in villages. It is set to launch an ambitious scheme called the Panchayat Pustak Mela or Panchayat Book Fair. It aims to organise regular book fairs in rural areas.
